Sebenarnya, kesadaran akan pentingnya Bahasa Inggris memang sudah dirasakan sejak lama. Tantangan globalisasi pada abad 21 semakin mendorong masyarakat untuk memiliki keterampilan Bahasa Inggris. Berbagai cara dilakukan masyarakat agar terampil berbahasa Inggris, misalnya orang tua mendaftarkan anaknya pada kursus Bahasa Inggris, mencari sekolah yang bahasa pengantarnya Bahasa Inggris, sedangkan anak-anak berupaya mengikuti pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dengan baik.

Banyak manfaat yang bisa kita nikmati dengan memiliki keterampilan di bidang Bahasa Inggris, baik secara pasif maupun aktif. Memiliki keterampilan berbahasa Inggris dapat membantu memudahkan pencarian informasi yang lebih luas, memudahkan berkomunikasi dan berinteraksi, serta memiliki pergaulan yang lebih luas dengan di dunia global.

Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa yang sangat penting untuk dipelajari dan dikuasai khususnya oleh generasi muda karena Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa internasional yang paling sering digunakan. Artinya, Bahasa Inggris diakui dan dipakai oleh berbagai orang di seluruh penjuru dunia untuk berkomunikasi. Oleh karena itu, PPPK Petra memilih Bahasa Inggris menjadi salah satu jenis ELS yang bisa dipilih siswa di seluruh sekolah, mulai dari jenjang SD hingga jenjang SMA. ELS Bahasa Inggris merupakan salah satu jenis kegiatan ELS yang mendapat respon positif dari siswa SD Kristen Petra 1. Pada tahun ajaran ini, ELS Bahasa Inggris diisi oleh siswa kelas III hingga kelas V dan dibagi ke dalam dua kelas (kelas III dan kelas IV-V).

Why is it important to speak English well and correctly? Is it because we want to be called up to date? Or do you do it in order to be praised “cool” by others? The reasons are not as simple as those stated above. There are some benefits we would get, such as: we could get much knowledge that we have never learnt before and we would be able to have more opportunities abroad.

By this English Excellent Life Skill program, the teacher guides the students to increase their ability in English skills, including writing, speaking, reading and listening. The learning process is carried out by leading and presenting several kinds of challenging activities, such as games, situational dialogues, watching movies and some presentation. The students think that English Excellent Life Skill program brings so many benefits and positives for them.

In facing the development of the world today, students are prepared to face the globalization era. One of the ways to encourage students is by improving their skill to communicate in English. Therefore, Petra 9 Christian Elementary School provide English Excellent Life skill for the fourth and fifth grade students, which is held every Monday.

There are some varied and fun activities that can be done through this English ELS program. The activities involve practice such as performances, group discussion, listening, writing stories, watching educated movies, and games. All the activities are aimed to help the students in learning English easily whether it is spoken or written.

“English is an universal language”. That phrase is true because English is a need for us to be able to communicate with other people from other countries. Almost 90% of the companies around the world are using this language to do their business with their colleagues. Therefore, it is not surprising that PPPK Petra gives their students an opportunity for joining the English with Native Class in Excellent Life Skill. The purpose of this activity is to develop and finding their student’s ability, especially in English conversation. But not just that, this also trains the students to be more confident when they have to speak in public. The teachers for this activity are definitely professionals and experienced. For sure, they have been selected strictly and with no doubt, they can communicate through English fluently. Besides, they came from another country other than Indonesia, which makes this activity much more exciting, effective, yet fun for the students of PPPK Petra.
